Incorporating Blogs in The Classroom

As I sit here with my "Teacher Hat" on, I am finding it very difficult to incorporate blogging into an elementary classroom. Well at least incorporating it into activities for my students. Although I can see where I could keep parents involved, by creating a private blog where they could view the classes daily adventures in education. I think that a blog could be very beneficial for parent-teacher relationships as well as connecting all of the parents. Making a community kind of the way we have done for this computer applications class. A blog where I can share and the parents are able to comment and make suggestions. Maybe even posting learning activity ideas that parents could do for fun with their child outside of school.

If I was planning on being a High School teacher, I would use blogs so that the students and I could communicate outside of the classroom. I think that it would be a great networking tool for students if they posted questions when they needed help, that way they could help each other. I also thought that it would be really cool to require students to post essays and reports on a blog before physically turning them in. Then assign partners or groups and the groups comment on one another's post helping one another to better their report or essay. I also think by the student having to post where the entire class may view their work, will keep them accountable and encourage them to do their best.

This is the best I could come up with, but I am really excited to read everyone else's ideas to see if anyone found something better. Also if you do have a better Idea or can think of ways to better mine I would love to know!

  1. One thing, I really love the format of your blog, it's colorful and well organized. That is a really good point about improving the parent teacher relationship, never really thought of that. The relationship between a parent and teacher is very important and exploring new ways to enhance that should be encouraged throughout all school systems. Especially now in days parents are mad at the teachers for their students performance. Parents can monitor and keep track of what's going on in class. Very interesting points.
